Event Details

Philosopher Slavoj Žižek joins Nathaniel Rich for an exploration of worst-case scenarios, a subject at the heart of Rich's new novel Odds Against Tomorrow.

Set in Manhattan's not-too-distant future, Odds Against Tomorrow tells the tale of Mitchell Zukor, a gifted young mathematician hired by a mysterious new consulting firm operating out of the Empire State Building. Zukor's job? Calculate worst-case scenarios for high-end corporations to indemnify them against future catastrophes. Yet when one of his own nightmarish predictions becomes a reality, Zukor finds himself in a uniquely profitable (if morally questionable) position -- and readers find themselves immersed in a story that explores the nature of fear, and the truly terrifying possibilities of our civilization's future.
