Music @NYPL presents Choro Down Neck

March 29, 2013

Program Locations:

This program is made possible by the Friends of Webster.

The Brazilian choro has something for everyone; poignant, delicious 19th century harmonies combined with Afrocentric syncopated rhythms that remind you of ragtime and early American jazz, exquisite, exciting and often virtuosic melodies, and the interlocking rhythm of the 7-string guitar and the pandeiro. NJ-based choro ensemble Choro Down Neck takes its name from their Newark Portuguese/Brazilian neighborhood where great Brazilian people, food and music reside.

This program will feature classics from every era of choro by Pixinguinha, Bandolim, Gonzaga, Pascoal, and more, plus beautiful and exciting originals.  Featuring Peter Abazia, pandeiro and percussion; Jessica Valiente, flute; Ivan Max, guitar...and guests!
