Homer Smith, an aimless ex-soldier was on his way to California when his car overheats.  He stopped in the Arizona desert to get water at an isolated farm and soon finds himself in the company of a group of nuns.  The nuns persuade him to help them build a chapel.  As a result, a friendship developed between Homer and the nuns
