ReelAbilities 2013: Imagine, with discussion following to be led by Charlie Morrow.
March 11, 2013
Mid-Manhattan Library, The Corner Room
As part of the ReelAbilities 2013 Film Festival, we are pleased to present:
Imagine, directed by Andrzej Jakimowski (France/Portugal/Poland, 2012, 105 min, Narrative) Ian, a specialist in spatial orientation, arrives to work at a school for the blind in Lisbon. Blind himself, he teaches his students to move around without using their canes, encouraging them to risk the unknown through the use of a complex network of sound cues. Among them is the beautiful Eva, who he attempts to bring out of her shyness and seclusion, leading toward an unspoken romance.
After the film, Charlie Morrow--composer, sound artist and sound poet--will lead the audience in discussion. In the 60s, Charlie Morrow created Dance Music for the Blind. He continues to ear-light the territory of sound through the creation of soundscapes and events for indoor and outdoor settings. In the mountains of Vermont where he lives, and in other sound places, he delivers to listeners with his True3D sound system.
