This film tells the story of suffering, endurance, and triumph is set in early 20th century rural south. Celie Johnson is a browbeaten, much abused, nearly illiterate farm girl who, over the cours of 40 years grows into a woman of self-assurance and wit, a woman with her onw dreams and identity. 

Based on the Pulitzer Prize - wining novel of the same name by Alice Walker.
