November 5, 2012

This family memoir tells the story of the Ephrussis family through an inherited collection of hand-carved Jampanese figures called Netsuke.  The Ephrussis, a banking dynasty in Paris and Vienna; ancestors of the author; and secular Jews, endure the hardships of  two world wars and Nazi rule, emerging with the Netsuke as the sole remains of their vast dynasty.
