Films at the Schomburg: In Focus: Telling African American Stories with Film and Photography

Event Details

Award winning filmmaker, Thomas Allen Harris, founder and president of Chimpanzee Productions, Inc. - the Harlem based Film, Television, and Multimedia production company - will share In Focus: Telling African American Stories with Film and Photography, a lively multimedia presentation on how he has used the "personal photo archive" as a story-telling tool within his films. Harris will screen excerpts from his upcoming projects including film clips from the PBS documentary currently in post-production, "Through A Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People"; webisodes from the Digital Diaspora Family Reunion Roadshow series where participants from across the nation share stories from their Family Photo Albums; as well as excerpts from Harris' previous films, "Twelve Disciples of Nelson Mandela" and "E Minha Cara/That's My Face".

All are welcome!  Please bring questions, comments, and ideas for how photography can be used to effect social change.  Learn more about Thomas Allen Harris and Chimpanzee Productions atwww.DDFR.tv.
