January 13, 2012

Program Locations:

Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Langston Hughes Auditorium

The Schomburg kicks off its new season with Word Rapport: building bridges and relationships between authors, books and YOU. In collaboration with Hueman Book Store, please join New York 1’s Cheryl Wills and professor and author Randall Robinson as they discuss his new novel, Makeda. Part coming-of-age story, part spiritual journey, and part love story, Makeda is a universal tale of family, heritage, and the ties that bind.

Randall Robinson is also the author of the national best sellers The DebtThe ReckoningQuitting America, and Defending the Spirit, as well as the novel The Emancipation of Wakefield Clay. He is a professor of law at Penn State Law School and is the creator, co-producer, and host of the public television human rights series World on Trial.

Cheryl Wills is an award-winning anchor and reporter for Time Warner Cable’s flagship national news network, New York 1 News, based in New York City. She has been with the news channel since its launch in 1992 and the journalist is also the author of Die Free:  A Heroic Family Tale  which traces her great-great-great grandfather Sandy Wills' courageous service in the Civil War as a member of the United States Colored Troops.
