Event Details

The featured speaker for the Friends Fall Lecture Luncheon will be Susan Orlean discussing Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend.

Susan Orlean is best known for the best-selling The Orchid Thief, which was the inspiration for the movie Adaptation starring Meryl Streep. She has also been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1992 and has written articles for Vogue, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Outside.

In this new book Orlean explores the history of the Rin Tin Tin, from the discovery of the original German shepherd on a World War I battlefield to a Hollywood career that included many films and the classic television show. More than just the story of the many dogs that make up the Rin Tin Tin legacy, this is a story about war, show business, the bond between people and canines, and the making of a beloved icon that has played a role in decades of American popular culture.
