April 20, 2011

Program Locations:

Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, American Negro Theatre

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, in association with Tracy Jack and Alfred Preisser, presents New Theater Voices @ the Schomburg Center, a play reading series dedicated to emerging African-American playwrights featuring this month 2 X 2 by Sonia Sanchez; directed by SaMi Chester, Artistic Director of The BeBop Theatre Collective.

2x2 is a new play by one of America’s most important and unique literary voices. A moving and deeply personal exploration of the impact of political activism and generational divides as they have affected the black community in the United States. Sanchez weighs youthful idealism versus the cultural paralysis of older generations in a series of amusing and profound confrontations. In 2x2, Sanchez reminds us that many of the issues that have plagued black communities in the United States continue to exist in new and reinvented forms.
