WORDS IN THE HEIGHTS: THREE WRITERS READ THEIR WORK

Barbara Blatner

Barbara Blatner is a poet, playwright and composer whose plays have been produced in New York, Boston and Cleveland. This year, two full-length poetry collections, The Still Position and Living with You, are coming out with New York Quarterly Books; a poetry chapbook, The Pope in Space, was published in 1986 by Intertext Press.

Barbara's verse play, No Star Shines Sharper, was published in the early 90s by Baker's Plays, produced for radio by the Public Media Foundation and aired repeatedly on National Public Radio stations. She has written music for theater, including the Boston Shakespeare Company and New Theater, and for the Boston-based fusion group Urban Myth. 
 

Joel Allegretti

Joel Allegretti is the author of two full-length books from The Poet’s Press, The Plague Psalms and Father Silicon, which was selected by the Kansas City Star as one of 100 Noteworthy Books of 2006.  His third collection, Thrum, a chapbook of poems, prose poems and brief poetic essays about musical instruments, appeared in 2010 from Poets Wear Prada Press.

His work has appeared in many national journals, including The New York Quarterly, Margie, Rattapallax, Slipstream, Xcp Cross-Cultural Poetics and Confrontation.  His poetry was the basis of a song cycle by composer Frank Ezra Levy that had its world premier in 2009 at Kean University in New Jersey.

Anca Pedvis

Anca Pedvis has had a twofold calling: as a painter and as a poet. As a poet she has published her work in all major literary magazines in Romania. Also she has three books of poetry published: An Imperceptible Whif of Socrates (The Romanian Book Press, 1997), The Mount Placid Tirade, a bilingual, Romanian-English edition (The Romanian Cultural Foundation Publishing House, 2003), and Propilogue ( Bucharest, Ideea Europeana, 2006). She has also written numerous essays and translated American poetry for Romanian readers.
