Mid-Manhattan Library's Art and Picture Collections present PINKPURPLE an exhibition of paintings by artist Tamara Gonzales. Inspired by her PINKPURPLE tumblr blog, launched in conjunction with her site-specific installation at Mid-Manhattan Library’s Corner Room, Gonzales has created vinyl window hangings that incorporate collage and elements from her unique technique of spray painting through found lace, tablecloths and doilies. The artist interested in how digital social media can inform art making, invites the public to browse, post, and ask her questions online at pinkpurplefeeder.tumblr.com

Writer and artist Sharon Butler joins Tamara Gonzales for An Artist Dialogue series event on Saturday May 4 at 2:30pm inside the Corner Room.
Art in the Corner Room exhibition series is curated by Arezoo Moseni.
Artist Statement
In May of 2012, I began collecting images for my first tumblr* site bad to the bone. The ability to amass a digital archive of images for my pleasure was a natural extension of my collage work. By choosing to follow the blogs I posted images from, my site and dashboard soon began to reveal a shared aesthetic known as: pastel grunge and dark fashion with a dose of kawaii.

An inordinate amount of photos containing pink and purple rolled up on my dash. I decided to launch a new blog in conjunction with my Art in the Corner Room exhibition. It is my hope that visitors to the blog PINKPURPLE post pictures, ask questions, and generally explore the vast archive of images that are proliferating on the internet. Perhaps they will also find a tribe as I feel I have. Lastly I must mention the cats. Photos of cats abound on tumblr. Since their relationship with humans goes far beyond the scope of this statement I will leave it at that. Full disclosure…while I don't actually have a cat, I do post them a lot.
*tumblr© is a blogging platform that is mostly made up of user-generated shared content.
