The North Shore Animal League brings in a shelter animal to show the wonders of empathy. Working together to create an adoption poster, teens unmask the hero in themselves by helping an animal to find a forever home – they give voice to the voiceless. We will give a brief on Animal League America, which is the world’s largest no-kill adoption shelter, and the origin of the word Mutt-i-grees. Recommended for ages 12 to 18 years old.

Students will develop their creative and problem solving skills through hands-on lessons led by experienced teaching artists. Classes introduce art history topics and vocabulary which will be applied to the exploration of drawing, painting, and mixed media work. At the end of the semester, all students will have their work displayed in a student exhibition at a professional art gallery in NYC. Dust off your instrument, put on your tap shoes, and beat box your way to the first open mic night at the Grand Concourse Library. Each participant will be given a five minute slot to show off their mad skills. Come learn the Chinese ribbon dance! Margaret Yuen, Director of the Red Silk Dancers will demonstrate the dance and show you how to wave a long silk ribbon to create rainbows, dragons and waterfalls. No previous training required and all materials will be provided. Recommended for ages 4 to 12 years old. Space is limited to 20 participants, please register by phone or in-person.
