Great post!

My road to literacy began before I started school. In fact, my mother said that she was chastised by my kindergarten teacher for teaching me to read early (ah, the unenlightened 1970's!) The only teacher I remember from my K-6 days was Mrs. Carter, my fourth grade teacher. And that's because she encouraged us and believed in us more than any teacher I ever encountered before or since. Plus she had a great sense of humor, and always knew how to make us laugh.
Thanks to your mom for her stories, and for being a teacher and loving her job!
