Dongan Hills Branch Information
Branch History
The Dongan Hills Branch of The New York Public Library,
which occupied a rented storefront on Richmond Road from 1957 to 1974,
moved to its present location in the spring of 1975. A modern, air-conditioned,
one-story branch, Dongan Hills houses nearly 50,000 books, periodicals,
CDs, cassettes, videos, and other materials. A meeting room, with a
seating capacity of 60, is used for library events such as story hours,
films, and lectures, as well as for community sponsored events.

- Closed-Circuit Television Enlarger (CCTV) - enlarges printed
material 45-60 times
- Personal Reading Machine - scans printed text and reads
aloud in synthetic speech
- Computer screen magnification software
- Community Information collection
- Personal computers and software for free public use by appointment
- Internet access for free public use by appointment

- Preschool story and picture book hour
- Films, workshops, and other programs for children and teenagers
- Book discussion groups, writing workshops, craft classes, and lectures
for adults
- English
Classes for Speakers of Other Languages held during fall, winter, and
spring
- Income tax preparation for senior citizens conducted at branch during
tax season
- Class visits by appointment
