Street by Raymond Verdaguer

"Street" - Linoleum cut (14x5.5 inches), Copyright 2003 Raymond Verdaguer

The Art Collection has individual files on several thousand visual artists including artists’ statements, biographical information and reproductions of artwork.  The files contain:

  • exhibition announcements cards, pamphlets, posters, press releases
  • small catalogues of gallery exhibitions
  • smaller catalogues of museum exhibitions
  • some obituaries and articles from periodicals not currently available online

These files are available for reference use by the public in the Library and are arranged in alphabetical order by the artists' last names. The artists in the files are fashion designers, garden designers, graphic artists, illustrators, interior designers, painters, photographers, printmakers, sculptors and video artists.  The scope is international with a focus on artists active in 20th and 21st centuries.

Since 2000, the emphasis of the files has been on emerging contemporary artists, especially those working or exhibiting their work in New York City.  The collection includes materials that describe the curatorial programs of a few local non-for-profit organizations. The information found in each file may range from a single item to a substantial amount of material.

Only the index and not the contents of the files can be found on this website.   The files are NOT cited in LEO the online catalog. To view the Artist files, please visit us on the third floor of Mid-Manhattan Library.

In addition to these files, Art and Architecture Collection at the Humanities and Social Sciences Library has The Artist Files.
