Artist Statement
In the summer of 2002 while volunteering at The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, I met, fell in love with and soon after adopted Sammy, a 3-year-old German Shepherd, the namesake of this exhibition.

The photographs in this exhibition are of Sammy and the dogs I know as the result of having her. I have met many of them at the dog park, and arranged to photograph them at their homes. Rather than trying to make grand statements, I avail myself to the possibilities that arise once the picture-taking process begins.

Being in the presence of dogs has always held a certain kind of excitement for me. Few things make me feel as good. Simply put, they delight me. This collection of color photographs is a tribute to their characters. It is a celebration of their lives and a look at how they enhance ours.
