In May, 1997, The Board of Trustees of the Vincent Astor Foundation, most notably its President, Brooke (Mrs. Vincent) Astor, approved a grant to The New York Public Library.

The annual proceeds of this endowment are used to purchase literary fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for Branch Library collections.
