More Young Adult Novels Becoming Blockbuster Movies

Share

Multiple YA books are hitting theaters and the trend does not seem to be slowing down, especially for multi-book series.

We all saw what a mega success the Harry Potter and Twilight series were and now we have been patiently waiting for the Divergent trilogy.  The first installment of the series just premiered on Friday, March 21, 2014.  With all the success, it seems we will continue to see more books hit the big screens and seriously, who can complain about that?

What continues to surprise me is how popular these books are among adults as well.  Young Adult books are no longer only for teens, they are written with enough poise, excitement and imagination to intrigue readers from tweens to seniors.  While I am sincerely a fan of most of the movies that have been based on YA books (Hunger Games, Beautiful Creatures, and Immortal Instruments—the list goes on) nothing beats reading the books first.

Heed my advice, take a risk and expand your horizons; while sorcery and vampires may not be your cup of tea there’s enough creativity in other YA novels such as The Maze Runner, The Book Thief or The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which will definitely lead you to find interests into other areas.  NYPL carries all of these books in multiple  format at most  of our branches.  If your interest is piqued then check out some of these books at your local branch and afterwards treat yourself to seeing the movie!
