Free Programs at New Dorp Library: July 2013

July is almost here and Independence Day isn't the only time you'll see sparks! (And we don't mean Nicholas!) Head over to New Dorp Library and get involved in some of our amazing programs for all ages, without the fear of being burned by a sparkler!

This month you can look forward to attending our classic programs such as Read Aloud, Teen Cafe and Exercise Programs! But to add a little color this summer we're throwing in some other awesome programs! Check them out and have a blast at your favorite library!

For Children

Children's Summer Reading Program – July through August 30th
For ages birth through 11 years. At www.summerreading.org
Exercise your brain all summer. Be extra smart when school starts!

Reading Aloud
For ages 3 years and up.
Enjoy hearing books read aloud, finger plays, action rhymes and coloring.
Mondays and Fridays, at 2 p.m.
July 1, 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26 & 29. No preregistration is needed.

Baby Rhyme Time
For ages birth through 17 months and their caregiver.
Friday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m.
Bring your baby to an interactive program featuring simple books, songs and movement.
Preregistration is required and starts 1 week before.

Rhythm, Music and Sound
For ages 3 years and up.
Cool off with some cool children's music!
Thursday, July 11, at 2 p.m. No preregistration needed.

Wear your Pajamas! Story & Rhyme Night
For children ages 3 years and up & caregiver
Share stories, songs, finger plays and action rhymes—wearing your pajamas!
Thursday, July 18, at 6 p.m. No preregistration needed.

Preschool Program
For ages 2½ to 5 years and their caregiver.
Wednesday, July 24, at 11 a.m.
Enjoy books, finger plays, action rhymes, and coloring.
Preregistration is needed and will start 1 week before.

Puppet Show
For ages 4 years and up
Bob Nathanson will present his enjoyable puppet performance.
Thursday, July 25, at 2 p.m. No preregistration needed.

Free Family Movies!
Free family movies will be shown on Saturdays, at 2 p.m.
"Pokemon Rise of Darkrai" on July 6, and "Cinderella II: Dreams Come True" on July 27
Children may take home a free coloring sheet of the movie character.

 

For Teens

Teen Café Remixed
July 7/8 2-4 p.m.
Come join us for fun in the community room. Play your favorite games on the PS3 and the Wii. Come hang out with your friends! You can bring your snacks, soda, coffee, homework, iPod. Check out a laptop and browse the internet! For ages 12-18.

Teen Club
July 7/17 2–4 p.m.
Your two favorite programs – Teen Art & Anime Club have combined !! Talk Anime and Draw Manga or Talk Manga and don't draw Anime. It's up to you. For ages 12 to 18.

Teen Advisory Group (TAG)
July 7/5 2–4 p.m.
Join our Teen Advisory Group and get hands on experience volunteering for the Library.
Earn Community Service hours by attending our monthly meetings and giving us your input! What's happening in your world? What's the hottest book, movie, or cd right now? What programs does the library need? This is a great way to meet new friends and really get involved in what goes on here at the New Dorp Library.For ages 12-18.

For Adults

Knitting Group (in Spanish)
Monday, July 1 and 15, 2013 at 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Participants must supply their own yarn, needles, and hooks.

Internet for Beginners
Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Internet Basics for adults.

Stay Well Exercise Program
Tuesdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2013 at 1:00-2 p.m.
The Stay Well exercise program is geared for all seniors, ranging from the fit to those with disabilities. The curriculum includes aerobic exercises as well as routines designed to enhance balance, build muscle strength and aid in the performance of the tasks associated with daily living. Classes end with stress reduction exercises. Classes normally run 40 - 50 minutes and are held once a week.

Adult Knitting and Crochet Club
Saturdays, July 6 and 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.-12 noon
Participants must supply their own yarn, needles, small scissors, and the pattern you want to work on.

Computer Training for Adults in Spanish
Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Wireless Wednesdays
Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Wireless Wednesdays is laptop tutoring. Registration starts one week before the class.

American Mah Jongg
Friday, July 12 and 26, 2013 at 2:30-4 p.m.
Join other American Mah Jongg enthusiasts for an afternoon of enjoyable play. If you have a Mah Jongg set and a Mah Jongg Card, please bring them. All levels welcome.

Shopping Online!
July 23 2013, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Internet for Beginngers and an active email account required.
Learn on to protect yourself when shopping online, as well as what services are available and how to take full advantage of them.

Finding a Job Online in Spanish!
Tuesday, July 30, 2013, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
