Horse Professional Associations and Journals

[Statue of a horse on an inscribed pedestal and garden structure with seating.], Digital ID 835223, New York Public LibraryLike always, I am horse crazy as ever, so I definitely wanted to see which professional associations and journals are out there to aid horse professionals. When I was a librarian at a corporate library, part of my job was to dig up medical professional journals. I found an association for recruiters in health care for my supervisor that she did not know about. I became aware that there is a professional association for everything, and I sometimes refer patrons to professional associations.

Once at the library, I had a parent inquire about education for her child, and I referred her to AGATE: Advocacy for Gifted and Talented Education in New York State, an organization that my mother was previously involved with. Sometimes I refer patrons who want to know more about a field for employment or to start a business to professional associations because they are filled with people who are quite knowledgeable about their fields.

Thanks for the horse links!

Thanks for putting this together! It is nice to see that the horse world has a friend in the New York Public Library. Please let me know if you ever blog about horses again, I will be sure to share it. I write the blog for Equus Magazine (thanks for mentioning it!) as well as my life's work, the chronicling of the life and times of the equine hoof. I'm currently trying to create a reference catalog coding system for hoofcare history and reference entries, and it is quite a challenge! We need librarians in the horse world, it's great to know you are there! I'm adding your list to my "ScoopIt" curated links mini-site.

Hi Fran, Call me at the Grand Concourse branch 718-583-6611 and I can give you my email so that you're added to the list. Thanks for your comment! Sincerely, Miranda

Hi Fran,

Hi Fran, You can subscribe to my RSS feed. I blog about horses often.

I missed this!

Hi Miranda, sorry I missed your comment! I love these blogs. I did subscribe to the RSS feed but I'm not sure it is working correctly. I hope I can stay in touch. I need the advice of a reference librarian or indexing/database type librarian, do you know one who is sympathetic to horses? Thanks! (although I may never see your answer if you write it here)
