The Zombie Comeback
Zombies are making a comeback thanks to the critically acclaimed television series The Walking Dead on AMC. Vampires everywhere must be rolling in their graves. This past Sunday marked the season finale of the show but never fear, a second season will soon begin production. For now you can get your zombie fix with these reads:
Robert Kirkman
The monthly comic series (on which the television series is based) follows a troupe of survivors as they struggle to live in a world decimated by a zombie outbreak.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Jane Austin and Seth Grahame-Smith
Before Elizabeth Bennett can find true love she must kick some serious zombie butt.
Cherie Priest
In this steam punk tale an alternate 1880s Seattle is covered in a toxic gas that turns people into zombies. Now a mother must fight pirates, a mad scientist and zombies to rescue her son before it is too late.
Carrie Ryan
A young teen rebels against the confines of her village, surrounded as it is by a chain link fence that protects its inhabitants against the zombies that roam the forest beyond. This is the first book in the Forest of Hands and Teeth series by Carrie Ryan, the next two are The Dead Tossed Waves and The Dark and Hollow Places (to be published in 2011).
Mira Grant
It is 2039 and the United States government is trying to find a cure for the virus that is turning the population into zombies. In the meantime twin bloggers Georgia and Shaun Mason must fight against zombies and the CDC in their search to uncover the truth behind the disease.
The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead
Max Brooks
The former Saturday Night Live staff writer gives readers plenty of humorous yet practical advice on how to deal with the living dead in case they ever, you know, decide to rise from the grave.

Zombies are making a comeback thanks to all the of the great comics, graphic novels, and the new literary takes on an old theme (not to mention the great British comedy "Shaun of the Dead"). Good as the show may be, really AMC is just cashing in on a fan base that's been waiting for television to do something even vaguely interesting for a long time. Television almost never leads; it follows.

a teen asked me for a good zombie book yesterday and I recommended "The Forest of Hands and Teeth" - I've read the first chapter and it's really, really good. This is a great list! I'll have to check out some of the other titles!!

Yes, I loved the Forest of Hands and Teeth series. I felt it brought a breath of fresh air to the zombie story as did the other titles listed.
BRAINS! (by Robin Becker)

Another zombie book that is also quite hilarious is BRAINS by Robin Becker. It's a "zomoir" a first person point of view memoir by a zombie.

Great post! But can you outrun a Zombie? When not reading about zombies, fight them off in the video game Plants vs Zombies. Your only defense are the plants to help you out.
