Teen Book Club: Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

Share

This month Jefferson Market’s Teen Book Club (aka The Undercover Muffins) is reading Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles.

Description: Brittany Ellis is Caucasian and the head cheerleader at Fairfield High School. Alex Fuentes is a Mexicano in the Latin Bloods. The two could not be any more different, but after being forced to become year-long lab partners for Chemistry class, the two soon realize they have their own “chemistry” going on! Could their love be strong enough to break down barriers and destroy stereotypes?

First question: The book is told through the alternating voices of Alex and Brittany. Which character do you like better?

The Undercover Muffins unanimously chose Alejandro “Alex” Fuentes as their favorite character. Here’s why:

“…because he is really cool & sex. He also is sweet because he does not want his brothers to follow in his footsteps.” —Aura

“I like him because he’s Hispanic and in a gang, but also misunderstood. And I like how upfront he is, like how he is so sure of himself with Brittany.” —Nathalie

“Even though he puts up a strong barrier to seem very tough, he is still a sweet guy. It took a real girl to enter his life in order for him to let out his sweet and caring side.” —Amanda

“He is cool plus the father figure for his brothers. He’s also sexy!” —Kisna

“He had to become emotionally and physically mature to become a better role model for his younger brothers.”   —Fatima

i really love this book and how Alex and Brittany became so close to one another. When he was in a gang he still had that bad boy in him but than became sweet when it came to Brittany and i find that very romantic
