What's your name?

My name is Kisna.

How old are you?

Nineteen years old.

Why did you come to the library today?

‘Cause I’m in the book club and our book club’s name is Undercover Muffins.

How did you get the name Undercover Muffins?

‘Cause one day we just got muffins and we were just happy. And we just ate muffins.

How long have you been coming to the library?

6-7 years

6-7 years!?

Yeah.

Did you come with your family first or did you just come on your own?

My family doesn’t read like that. I came by myself.

How did you know about the library?

The librarian at school told me there was a bigger library than the school’s library, with more books.

What kind of books do you like to read?

Fantasy and depressing books like suicidal kids getting pregnant .

What’s a book you just read that you liked?

Pucker

What’s it about?

This kid, he gets burned and he has to go back to the country he came from so that he could get the face that he had before.

So, his face gets burned?

Yeah, it gets all burned up and it becomes like a pucker.

Wow, that’s depressing.

It wasn’t depressing, just sad. It was cool.

What do you like to do at book club?

I like to make sure everyone pays attention and stays on task. And I like when we get books and I’m like, "Weee! Boookss!"

Do you go to school now? What grade are you in?

I’m in fourth grade. Haha. No, I’m a senior.

What are you doing after you graduate?

I’m going to be a Marine. First I’m going to boot camp and then I’m going to the University of Hawaii.

Are you going to get a library card in Hawaii?

They have libraries there?

They have libraries everywhere.

I enjoyed reading this interview because Kisna clearly loves reading. It reminds me of myself. I also read the entire school library's book collection and eventually moved onto the community library for further reading adventures.

At the time, there were no reading clubs like the Undercover Muffins... what a great way to involve young people in the literacy community!

hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

i love this girl. will you marry me
