I checked on Google Earth...you can walk down the street and see the theater..yes boarded up, markee still there. I was born there in '45 (Richmond Memorial Hosopital, now labelled "University Hospital of S.I.), left in '55 to live in NJ. All my relatives lived there for many years after. Remmember walking on Amboy Rd to Main St...many times stopping at Mary's 5 & 10..used to buy those "high bouncer" pinkish balls for 10cts. Lived on 196 Barnard Ave (an address that's embedded in my head) and grandmother lived on other side at 96 Barnard Ave. Front steps of grandparents are still in tact...grounds look poorly maintained..for us kids used to cut the grass and trim the hedges which have disappeared! Went to PS1..loved the kind teachers. Played summer league softball at PS1 many summers spending school vacation there after moving to NJ. Yes, a memorable place. Yet today, have one cousin that stayed.
