The Interview with Valda Setterfield, conducted by Deborah Jowitt, was audio recorded on June 4 and 11, 2012.

In this excerpt, Valda Setterfield describes how Merce Cunningham picked up where James Waring left off in helping her to discover herself as a dancer.  Setterfield also describes the supportive and nurturing role that Cunningham played in her life.

The Oral History Project Interview with Valda Setterfield was made possible with assistance from the New York State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.  You can listen to the interview in its entirety on-site on the third floor of the Library for the Performing Arts.  A full description of the interview, including a content summary, can be found here
