Susan Butler, writer in residence at The New York Public Library's Wertheim Study, will lecture on her forthcoming book, Roosevelt and Stalin: Winning the War: Shaping the Peace, to be published by Alfred A. Knopf in 2012.   The two leaders exchanged more than three hundred hot-war messages and worked together at two conferences: together they agreed on how to prosecute the war against Germany, the treatment of Germany after the war, and had come to a meeting of minds on the general outlines of a world organization to keep the world at peace.

Susan Butler is the author of My Dear Mr. Stalin: The Complete Correspondence of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Joseph V. Stalin with Forward by Arthur Schlesinger Jr., published by Yale University Press in 2005 and in trade paperback in 2007.  She is also the author of East to the Dawn: The Life of Amelia Earhart, first published by Addison-Wesley in 1997, and in trade paperback in 1999 and 2009.    The latter book was the basis for Amelia, the recent movie starring Hilary Swank.
