Meg Cabot, author of The Princess Diaries teen novel series, spoke at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on January 9, 2009. She provided all the dishy details about Forever Princess, the last book in the wildly popular series; answered questions from the audience; and signed books. The evening marked a fairy-tale ending to the book series that has sold over 4 million copies in the U.S. and was on The New York Times bestseller lists for a combined 144 weeks. Cabot and designer Austin Scarlett, from Season One of Project Runway, also unveiled a presentation of tiaras decorated by designers, authors, illustrators, actors, and TV personalities in honor of the books. The tiaras were auctioned online with all proceeds going to benefit teen programs at the Library's branches. Seventeen magazine was the event's media sponsor; Vera Wang Princess provided goody bags.
