The Dance Oral History Channel: Julie Kent Interview, Excerpt
The Interview with Julie Kent, conducted by Rose Anne Thom, was video recorded by François Bernadi on October 26, 2011, for the Speaking of Dancing Oral History Project.
This excerpt begins with Julie Kent responding to a question about how she prepared for roles in her earliest days of dancing with American Ballet Theatre. Kent goes on to discuss her interest in the storytelling aspect of ballet, and the process by which she learned to balance the demands of technique with the dramatic component of performing in order to find her own identity as an artist.
The Speaking of Dancing Oral History Project was made possible by a gift from Anne H. Bass. You can listen to the interview in its entirety on-site on the third floor of the Library for the Performing Arts. A full description of the interview, including a content summary, can be found here.
