The Interview with Jennifer Muller, conducted by Jennifer Brilliant, was audio recorded on June 7 and 8, 2011.
In this opening segment of the interview (approximately 60 mins.), Jennifer Muller describes her family background and early sources of her creative impulses. She speaks about influential dance teachers and experiences, including Antony Tudor, Anna Sokolow, Pearl Lang, Carol Friend, and the American Dance Festival. Muller describes her early career as a teacher, and her experiences as a dancer in the José Limón Dance Company, and with Louis Falco in his work Sleepers. She also speaks about her early choreography, including her work Beach, and the elements she feels set it apart from other dances of the time.
