Judith Thurman is the author of Secrets of the Flesh: A Life of Collette and Isak Dinesen: The Life of a Storyteller, which won the National Book Award and served as the basis for Sydney Pollack's Oscar-winning Out of Africa. Each piece in Thurman's new book, Cleopatra’s Nose, a collection that spans 20 years at The New Yorker, is a minature biographical gem. We will be treated to a look at Thurman's world, particularly her fascination with human vanity, femininity, and "women's work." Whether engaging in haute couture or literature, or commanding an empire, Thurman's iconic subjects all inspire her to a dazzling displays of craft, wit, penetration, and intelligence.
