 The Art and Picture Collections at Mid-Manhattan Library present Ada's Shop, a collaborative site specific exhibition, by multimedia artists Marianne R. Petit and Matthew Belanger.They use two-dimensional, pop-up, and motorized dioramic elements to explore the world and work of Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), the daughter of Lord Byron, who is recognized today as the first computer programmer (the United States Department of Defense named one of its computer languages ADA in her honor).

An interest in writing and mathematics led to her work with Charles Babbage and his Analytical Engine (the first mechanical computer); Lovelace's notes for Babbage contained algorithmic properties that are considered to be the first computer program. In Ada's Shop passersby are encouraged to interact with the window installation both physically and via mobile phone, activating motorized components, displays, lights, and sounds.
