Scope/Contents Note
Collection consists of papers collected by Robert MacDonald Lester and Cornelia Baldwin Gray for a proposed biography of Baldwin, including his correspondence, 1838-1865, family letters, legal papers, original copy and typescript of his Flush Times of California, and other writings; miscellaneous papers; and correspondence, 1922-1949, of Lester and Gray relating to Baldwin. Also photographs of Baldwin and his wife Sidney White.
Biographical/Historical Note
Joseph Glover Baldwin (1815-1864) was an American jurist and author. Robert MacDonald Lester (1888-1969) was an author, teacher and employee of the Carnegie Institute of New York. His published works include Forty Years of Carnegie Giving (1941).
