Scope/Contents Note
This is a synthetic collection consisting of typescripts and manuscripts, correspondence, notebooks for 1919 through 1951, a notebook for 1917 through 1920, and a portrait photograph. The manuscripts and typescripts include drafts of novels, biographies, short stories, notes for works, poems, and translations. The correspondence, dating from 1922 to 1976, includes lettersfrom the author to John Cheever, Babette Deutsch, Christopher Isherwood, Alfred Kazin, William Maxwell, Howard Moss, Caroline Newton, Edward Sackville-West, LouisUntermeyer, Monroe Wheeler, E. B. White, Thornton Wilder, and others. Also present are letters relating to the author, dating from 1954 through 1955, between various correspondents, including Monroe Wheeler, Antonio Frasconi,and the Spiral Press. There are letters to Wescott from Ann Barnes, Janice Biala, Hope Gill, Harper & Bros., Harper's Magazine, Christopher Isherwood, Marianne Moore, Mary Warner Moore, Vladimir Nabokov, Roger Senhouse, LouisUntermeyer, and Thornton Wilder, dating from [1932] to 1971.

Glenway Wescott was an American novelist, short-story writer, poet, literary critic, and essayist.
