Scope/Contents Note

This is a synthetic collection consisting of manuscripts, a typescript, and correspondence. The manuscripts and typescripts include essays and poems by the author, as well as an essay and bibliographical list relating to the author by Norman Macleod and the Gotham Book Mart. The correspondence includes letters by Tate, dating from 1935 to 1971, to Babette Deutsch, Jean Garrigue, Alfred Kazin, Vladimir Nabokov, Michael Roberts, Muriel Rukeyser, Frances Steloff, Julian Symons, and Ruth Witt-Diamant. Also present are letters relating to the author, dating from 1939 to 1965, between various correspondents, including Kenneth Burke, Babette Deutsch, Isabella Gardner,and Frances Steloff. There is a letter to Tate from Vladimir Nabokov, dated [April 30, 1952].
