Scope/Contents Note
Watercolor and ink costume designs depicting women dressedin skirts with paniers and large wigs and head pieces, several with birds flying around them. Designs are identified by sequential numbers, the names of performers and/or character names and includes notes on construction.All have Gilbert Adrian printed in lower right corners.
Biographical/Historical Note
Known through most of his career as "Adrian", Gilbert Adrian was born in Connecticut as Adrian Dolph Greenburg. His designs for Broadway include George White's scandals and Nifties of 1923 but much of his career was spent in Hollywood, designing for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 1925-1939. He retired in 1952 but returned to Hollywood in 1958to design Camelot, for which he posthumously received a Tony Award.
