Scope/Contents Note
The radio scripts consist of daily episodes of the radio program THE SECOND MRS. BURTON spanning from June 23, 1952until September 9, 1960. The scripts, written by HectorChevigny, seem to be his copies as his name is often written on the front page. There are no scripts in any year for January 1 leading to the conclusion that there were no broadcasts on that day.
Biographical/Historical Note
The radio program, THE SECOND MRS. BURTON, aired from 1946until November 25, 1960 and was the last radio soap opera. It was on from Monday to Friday at 2 PM and ran each dayfor 15 minutes. The story line dealt with a family in a small American town, with Terry Burton, the second wife, struggling for a good life amidst her husband's scheming ex-wife and his mother's often crude ways. Writers for the series included Martha Alexander, John M. Young, Hector Chevigny, Priscilla Kent and Johanna Johnston. Thecast changed through time with Claire Niesen, Sharon Douglas, Patsy Campbell, Teri Keane and Jan Miner all playing Terry Burton. Others of the cast included Dwight Weist, Evelyn Varden, Ethel Owen, Alice Frost and Larry Robinson.
