Scope/Contents Note

This is a synthetic collection consisting of manuscripts, correspondence, diaries for 1869 and 1874, and a notebook dated 1859. The correspondence includes letters from Una Hawthorne, dating from [1851] to 1867, to her aunt Elizabeth M. Hawthorne, her brother Julian Hawthorne, her father Nathaniel Hawthorne, her mother Sophia Peabody Hawthorne, her sister Rose Hawthorne Lathrop, her cousin Horace Mann, Jr., her aunt Mary T. Mann, her aunt Elizabeth Palmer Peabody, W. D. Ticknor, and others. Thereare letters to Una Hawthorne from Robert Browning and others, including members of the Hawthorne family, including Julian, Elizabeth Manning, Sophia Peabody, and Rose Lathrop, dating from 1857 to 1877.

Biographical/Historical Note

Una Hawthorne was the eldest daughter of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Sophia Peabody Hawthorne.
