The Karl Bernstein Scrapbooks contain clippings, programs,press releases, reviews and halftones of theater productions spanning his career from 1925 to 1970. Included are scrapbooks for SILK STOCKINGS(1955); WAIT UNTIL DARK(1966); ONE TOUCH OF VENUS(1943); MAJOR BARBARA(1956); ON THE TOWN(1944); LET'S FACE IT(1941); LEAVE IT TO ME(1938); HIGH BUTTON SHOES(1947); GUYS AND DOLLS(1950); CAN CAN(1953); Victor Borge's COMEDY IN MUSIC(1953); ANYTHING GOES(1934) and BANJO EYES(1942) among others.

Biographical/Historical Note

Karl Bernstein was a theatrical publicist for New York theater productions from 1925 to 1970. Bernstein began his career as a vaudeville critic but soon became a theatrical publicist in the 1920's representing theatres in his native Brooklyn. Moving to Broadway he publicized such noted works as those written by Gershwin and Cole Porter. He was a founding member of the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers. He died in New Yorkin 1983.
