William Beattie, Scottish physician and poet. Beattie counted many famous and influential people among his closest friends, including: Thomas Campbell, for whom he wrote a biography; Samuel Rogers, for whom he was executor; Lady Blessington, to whose Book of Beauty annualhe often contributed; and Lady Byron, who reportedly "had imparted to him the true reason of her separation from herhusband, and that it was not the one given by Mrs. Stowe."
