The first 2 items are printed, and the last 8 except for the pencil notes are reproduced from typescript. Most of the handouts include bibliographical notes and musical examples with texts in French. The concert program includes texts of chansons sung (French only).
Biographical/Historical Note
An American musicologist, teacher, and editor, Gustave Reese (1899-1977) is best known as the author of Music in the Middle Ages (1940) and Music in the Renaissance (1954;rev 1959). His teaching at New York University and other institutions helped to shape the direction of American musicology.
