Seven letters from Israel De Wolf Andrews to Charles Wentworth Upham, 1854 May 4-1856 Dec. 20, mainly concerning the reciprocity treaty of 1854 between the United States and Canada which Andrews helped to negotiate,and with regard to which he had outstanding claims. Otherpolitical matters in the U.S. are briefly mentioned.
Biographical/Historical Note
Israel De Wolf Andrews (d.1871) was a diplomat and politician who served as U.S. Consul General for Canada. Charles Wentworth Upham was a Unitarian minister, memberof the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate, and U.S. Congressman.
