Scope/Contents Note
Diary of an anonymous Confederate soldier written from August 1864 through August 1865. Meticulously dated and written with fine penmanship, the diary recounts a year in the life of a soldier. It begins near Petersburg, Virginia and concludes near Harrisonberg(?). The diary records first-hand narrative accounts of day-to-day activities and includes observations on battles, illnesses,orders from generals and weather conditions, the reelection of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency, and Lee'ssurrender at Appomatox.
