Copies of the Anna M. Whistler diary must be used. Permission to see original must be given by Curator of Manuscripts.
Collection consists of papers of James McNeill Whistler; his mother, Anna M. Whistler; and father, George Washington Whistler (1800-1849) a noted railroad engineer. Items include letters by the artist; a diary kept by hismother in St. Petersburg, Russia, from Nov. 1843 to Sept. 1848; and copies of a report written by his father. Also, copyprints of photographs and portraits of members of the Whistler family, copies of articles about James McNeill Whistler, and family documents.
James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834-1903) was an American artist.
