Scope/Contents Note

Collection consists of correspondence, research notes, andmiscellaneous family and genealogical papers. Frank Ward's papers include correspondence, genealogical materials, family photographs, and printed matter. CyrenusWard's papers contain correspondence, drafts of articles, notes, and his private research notes written in cipher. Also, correspondence of Frank Ward's wife and mother, miscellaneous papers of his uncle Lester Frank Ward, and miscellaneous items whose provenance cannot be determined.

Biographical/Historical Note

Frank Edwin Ward (1872-1953) was an organist, composer andmusic teacher at Columbia University in New York City. His father, Cyrenus Osborne Ward (1831-1902) was a social reformer, historian and author of The Ancient Lowlyand other books on the history of labor.
