Scope/Contents Note

Collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, facsimiles of autographs, and printed matter related to chess. Correspondence includes letters, 1837-1922, by notable chess players and world champions; and picture postcards, 1910-1933. Also, facsimiles of autographs of chess masters, manuscripts concerning chess tournaments, and five volumes of chess problems and their solutions (some in manuscript form).

Biographical/Historical Note

Gustavus Adolphus Pfeiffer (1872-1953) was an American businessman and philanthropist who collected chessmen and chess related materials. He was active in the Marshall Chess Club in New York City.
