Collection consists of letters, mainly in French, written by Stephen Jumel and Benjamin Desobry to captains and agents in Europe, the West Indies, New Orleans, and other cities in the United States, and to United States TreasuryDepartment officials. Topics include sales, purchases andprices of merchandise; movement of vessels; American commerce under Napoleonic decrees, British Orders in Council and American embargo; and French settlement in theUnited States.
