Scope/Contents Note
Collection consists of approximately 13,000 vouchers, 1914-1934, concerning Harris' investments and theatrical expenses during his most active years in the theatre. Many of the vouchers have bills, accounts or statements attached to them. There is a separate card index to the names on these vouchers. Also, there are about 3,000 vouchers, 1920-1928, relating to Mrs. Henry B. Harris and a few for Henry B. Harris and Howard Schnebbe.
Biographical/Historical Note
William Harris, Jr. (1884-1946) entered the family theatrebusiness in 1912 after the death of his older brother, Henry B. Harris. Until his retirement in 1939, William Harris, Jr. managed New York City theaters, produced playson Broadway and organized road companies of his shows.
