Scope/Contents Note

Collection consists of Graham's phonographic shorthand notes on court cases, 1858-1862, particularly the case of Johnson v. Root, tried in the United States Circuit Court in Boston (a case related to an alleged infringment of patent for a sewing machine.)

Biographical/Historical Note

Andrew Jackson Graham (1830-1894), author and teacher of stenography, developed the Graham shorthand system, founded the A.J. Graham Company in New York City, and started The Student Journal.
