Scope/Contents Note
The Dash family included a number of prominent New York merchants including Bowie Dash, notable for becoming one of the earliest importers of coffee into the United States. The file contains papers belonging to members of the Dash family, predominantly John Bowie Dash (Eighteenthcentury) and Daniel Dash, collected and compiled by J. Bowie Dash (b. 1873). Material includes notes of exchange,a small quantity of correspondence, and a receipt dating from 1784 relating to the sale of a slave.
